Battery-powered vs. wired motorized blinds — which is better for my Austin home?

Battery: easier to install, no electrician needed, 3–5 year battery life on lithium packs. Best for retrofits and windows where you can't run conduit. Wired: permanent low-voltage power, zero battery swaps ever, slightly faster movement. Best for new builds or remodels where the wiring is already open. We recommend per window — most homes end up mixed.

Can I motorize my existing blinds?

Sometimes. Rollers and some cellular shades can accept a retrofit motor; horizontal blinds and most plantation shutters can't. We assess every window during the free consultation. Often a full replacement is cheaper long-term once you factor in matching fabrics and warranty coverage.

How do sunrise/sunset schedules and automations work?

Every system we install supports time-based schedules and astronomical scheduling — the shades follow actual sunrise/sunset for your address year-round, so morning light arrives on time in June and December. We program your initial scenes (Wake, Movie, Goodnight, Away) during install and leave you a one-page cheat sheet for changes.

What's the warranty on motors?

Manufacturer warranty varies by brand — Lutron and Somfy typically offer 5 years on the motor. The Modern Blinds install warranty: lifetime on workmanship — if a mount, bracket, or pairing fails because of how we installed it, we come back at no charge.
